Introduction

If you're working from home or remotely and require access to your old Live Desktop session, follow the below guidance to remote connect via Cloud Apps. Once connected, everything should look the same as it would on an old Wyse Terminal from the office, providing access to what you need. You will need the smartphone associated with your work account to hands you will receive either an authentication prompt on the Microsoft Authenticator App or a phone call from Microsoft to verify it's you.

Please be aware that you should only be accessing your Live Desktop if there's something you are unable to access via Cloud Apps on your work laptop.

Accessing Cloud Apps

You will need to access your Live Desktop and other hosted applications via Cloud Apps.

  • Turn on your laptop or desktop device and sign in to your Office 365 account
  • Navigate to Cloud Apps
    • This can also be accessed via the waffle under the name Windows 10
  • Click on Live Desktop

  • Your browser may download a small file you will need to open
  • Click on the downloaded file once the download has completed as shown below

  • If you receive the following message, ticket the box to not show it again as shown below
    • This prevents it from showing this step the next time to remote connect to your Live Desktop

  • The connection should start the initialise as shown below
  • Grab your smartphone associated with your Microsoft Account
  • You should receive an approval request via the Microsoft App or a phone call from Microsoft
    • Tap Approve for the app
    • Alternatively, tap the hash-key on your dial pad for phone calls

You should now successfully remote connect to your Live Desktop which will open as a new window over the top of your current operating system. It can be minimised to go back to your local machine if you need to switch between the two.

Experiencing Issues?

If you experience issues with remote connecting to your Live Desktop, you can try restarting your device with a full power down and wait for 30 seconds. Failing this, try clearing your browsing history using this guide and see if that makes a difference. Be aware that clearing your history may clear saved passwords and you may need to log back into some accounts.

If you're still having issues, try denying the first approval you receive from Microsoft and then try again, next time approving. The system can on rare occasions get stuck in a loop.

If after all the fun and games you need help, you can raise a support ticket via the ICT Portal and an advisor will be happy to assist you. It may be worth checking your Internet connection beforehand using the below article and provide these results to the advisor if asked.

Signing Out

Once you're finished for the day with your Live Desktop, it's vital that you sign out the correct way, otherwise this may cause issues with your session the next time you attempt to sign in or remote connect to it.

  • Click the Start Button
  • Click the icon which looks like a person as shown below

  • Click Sign Out

This should fully sign you out of your Live Desktop and the Wyse Terminal will shut down.
