Purpose of this document

At the time of writing it is not possible to run multiple instances of Teams desktop. This is an issue if you wish to get notifications of messages from more than one tenancy (each Council has a tenancy). The method described below allows you to run Teams as both the desktop app and an Edge app, allowing you to receive notifications from both.

Steps

  1. Open Edge

  2. Go to https://teams.microsoft.com/v2/

  3. Log in to the website using your work account

  4. Use the Council name to the left of your profile picture in the top ribbon to open the tenancy selection menu:

  5. Switch to the other tenancy you want open too:

  6. Click the ... menu at top right of Edge:

  7. Choose Apps / Install this site as an app:

  8. Install it, allow it to Pin to Task & Start or run on start-up as desired:

  9. Presto, you have both councils open!

NB. The Edge app installation does not seem to support taskbar notification bubbles, though you can choose to notify you of new messages in Windows desktop notifications.
