Introduction

Access to the majority of the old network drives in your Live Desktop sessions will soon be shut down and removed. In  order to ensure you do not lose any data on these drives, it's vitally important that the contents be moved to your team's SharePoint or your personal OneDrive, depending on the data and who requires access to it.

Please use the below guidance to determine if you're using one of the network drives in question and then perform a data migration.

Should you have any questions surrounding the process or experience difficulties, please raise a ticket via the ICT Portal and one of the team will be able to assist you.

Check Your Drives

If you're still signing into your Live Desktop environment (see below image), you may be using a network drive(s) that is soon to be shutdown.

If you recognise the above icon and use Live Desktop regularly, check your mapped drives (as shown below) to see if they include any of the below-listed server names. If they do, then your service is required to migrate all of the shared network drive's contents onto SharePoint or into a personal OneDrive, depending on who requires access to specific files.

To check your mapped shared network drives, perform the following within your Live Desktop environment.

  • Open File Explorer via the task bar or use Windows Search

  • Select the This PC dropdown
  • Locate any mapped shared network drives you have
    • You may have none, in which case there's no actions needed

With the above in mind, those mapped drives highlighted in GREEN in the example screen shot beloware some of the exceptions to the upcoming shutdown of shared network drives as these are linked with applications which have been migrated to our new systems so are effectively safe, there will be others which are not shown in the example screenshot, as each user group is likely to use different drive mappings dependant on the applications which they use.

The critical point to note is that if any of your mapped drives within Live Desktop are like those marked in RED in the example screenshot above these are mappings which will be removed. There are also a list of older legacy drive mapping names, if you have any drives which contain any of the names listed in the table below within them, you will need to arrange for the data to be migrated or inform your line manager.

Next Actions & File Migration

If you don't have any drives mapped to your Live Desktop environment with any of the above server names included, you don't need to do anything.

However, if your mapped drives include any of the above server names, your team will need to ensure that ALL contents on that drive is migrated to a personal OneDrive or SharePoint site prior to access being revoked on 21/01/2022.

If you're uncertain about any of the above, you should contact your line manager in the first instance. If you still require assistance with migrating files to SharePoint, please contact us via the ICT Helpdesk Portal and click Report a Problem, General Problem in the dropdown, and one of the team will be happy to assist you.
