Introduction

All corporate devices should have the ability to print to our heavy-duty Konica printers in our offices, including our new corporate laptops that have been handed out to the majority of CBC staff for remote working. In some scenarios, however, you may require access to a standalone printer not connected to our internal network, whether this be in an office space or at home. With a focus on data security, our new corporate laptops come with restrictions to prevent users from printing to external off-network printers.

If you have a need to print to one of these other printers, you'll need to first place a request with ICT via the Helpdesk Portal. Your request will then run through a process of approval with our Information Governance team and return to the helpdesk to be actioned. If approved, we'll provide the required access so that you can follow the below steps to add the printer of choice.

Once you've successfully added the printer to your device, please let ICT know as you will then be restricted again from adding additional printers in the interest of security.

Printer Preparation

If the printer you are going to connect to is wireless as many modern office and home printers are these days, it should already be set to discoverable and appear in the list as mentioned in the below steps. If you're using a non-WiFi-enabled printer, you'll need to plug the printer cable into the laptop for not only the initial setup but any time you wish to use it.

Before you begin, ensure that the printer is turned on and if it has a screen, it's showing some form of display, as this will indicate it's not in any form of sleep mode.

If you are looking to install a home printer, we will be unable to assist with the installation of the printer on your device as it's not a supported corporate printer.

Adding a Printer

  • Log into your corporate laptop
  • Click on the Start button (bottom-left)
  • Type on the keyboard "Add a Printer"
    • This will perform a search
  • Click the option Add a Printer or Scanner

  • Click the next option also called "Add a Printer or Scanner"
  • After a few moments, the nearby printer should be detected
  • Click the printer when it appears

  • This should now install the printer
