Introduction
If you're experiencing issues with your Internet connectivity or your Windows 10 Live Desktop is dropping out, an Internet speed test can be a good indicator for diagnosing the issue. Although a speed test (especially over Wifi) isn't the most accurate method of checking your Internet speeds, it does give a rough idea of if your Internet connection is up to the task. Do be aware that when experiencing Internet connectivity issues, there can be a number of factors at play, including your ISP, Wifi signal or the equipment you're using.
This test must be run outside of your Live Desktop for accurate results.
Run a Speed Test
- Open your browser
- e.g. Chrome or Microsoft Edge
- Perform a Google search
- Search for Speed Test
- Click on Run Speed Test
- Ensure you have no other household members doing anything too taxing on the same connection while running the test
- Wait for it to finish
- Once the test has been run, you should get results for Download and Upload
- The download is the main one you're looking at and should be higher than the upload
- ICT recommends a minimum of 15Mbps download
