Introduction
If you use a large number of different websites for your work each day and don't know how to easily access them via your web browser, then follow the below guidance to create what are called bookmarks or favourites, depending on the browser you use. Whether you're on a laptop, desktop, wyse box or anything else, you should have the ability to add these handy links to your browser. This also means you don't need to litter your desktop with shortcuts and potentially lose access to them.
Once you've read this article, it may be worth backing up your newly created bookmarks and favourites by using the below article if you're using Google Chrome, the most common browser.
Google Chrome
- Open Google Chrome
- Navigate the first website you wish to bookmark
- Click the star at the top right-hand side of the browser window
- You can give your bookmark a name and even add it to a folder
- Click Done
- This will now have added your new bookmark to the bookmarks bar, however by default it may not be enabled
- If it doesn't show along the top of the screen, do the following
- Click the three dots icon at the top right-hand side of the browser window
- Click Settings
- Scroll down to the section for "Show bookmarks bar"
- Toggle the option on as shown below
- You should now have your new bookmark added along the top of the browser, below the url
- Repeat the above steps to add more
Microsoft Edge (Old)
- Open Microsoft Edge
- Navigate to the first website you wish to favourite
- Click the star at the top right-hand side of the browser window
- You can give your bookmark a name and even add it to a folder
- Click Add
- This will now have added your new favourite to the favourites tab and bar, however by default the bar may not be enabled
- If this doesn't show along the top of the screen, do the following
- Click the three dots icon at the top right-hand side of the browser window
- Click "Settings"
- Toggle the option for Show favourites bar to on
- You should now have your new bookmark added along the top of the browser, below the url
- Repeat the above steps to add more
Microsoft Edge (New)
The initial steps are the same as the old Edge shown above. To set the favourites bar to on, follow the below steps:
- Click the three dots icon at the top right-hand side of the browser window
- Click on Settings
- Click on Appearance down the left-hand side
- Change the drop-down option for Show favourites bar to your preference
Internet Explorer
- Open Internet Explorer
- Click on the star at the top right-hand side of the browser window
- Click on Add to favourites
- You can give your bookmark a name and even add it to a folder
- Click Add
- This will now have added your new favourite to the favourites tab and bar, however by default the bar may not be enabled
- If this doesn't show along the top of the screen, do the following
- Right-click on the top of the browser
- Click Favourites Bar
- It should now show
