Introduction

If you're joining a Teams meeting with headphones and are experiencing sound issues, try the following solutions to resolve the issue. Usually, permissions are the key issue, or your settings within Windows 10 are not set up correctly.

Please note that this only works if you're outside of your Windows 10 session (Live Desktop)

Potential Fix 1 (Sound Properties)

  • Click the Start Button
  • Start typing on the keyboard Sound
  • Click Sound Settings

  • Locate and click Sound Control Panel on the right-hand side of the screen

  • Locate your active speaker
    • In my case, it's a headset
  • Select it, then click Properties
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • Untick the options for Exclusive Mode

Potential Fix 2 (Mic Permissions)

  • Click the Start Button
  • Start typing on the keyboard Settings
  • Click on the Privacy option

  • Click on Microphone on the left-hand side
  • Check that it allows access to applications

  • Check if Microsoft Teams is listed and ensure the toggle option is ON
  • Also, check the settings for any other permissions for devices
